This very old Aboriginal Club was made out of a Root Ball in the 18th or 19th centuries. I acquired this club in 1991 from an artifact vendor in Perth, Western Australia who was liquidating the famous W. H. Holt/Lord Alastair McAlpine collection. The handle end has the Holt collection I.D. " No. 16 " and the word " Tasmania " neatly printed on it. On the shaft, there appears to be a thin surface section of wood that was removed, possibly to test to see if the origin of the wood was Tasmania. I do not know the results of the analysis if a test was performed. I researched Aboriginal root ball clubs and found that similar clubs were made by Aborigines in Victoria. No matter the source, this is a very old and valuable artifact in very nice condition and it is from the famous Holt/McAlpine collection. If it is from Tasmania, it is probably worth many times the price of a club from Victoria. This is the only root ball club I have ever had in my possession. A very nice artifact.
