This carving of a native dingo dog was made by Aborigines from Central Australia It was purchased by Ben Ruhe in the 1980s in an art gallery in Alice Springs from an elderly Aboriginal woman. The wood has the color and density of Mulga. This is a common hardwood used to make these animal totem carvings. The body takes up most of the hard red colored heart wood. The extremities (legs and ears) are carved out of the lower density blond exterior wood. The carving has multiple worm holes that break through the surface. Span = 41 cm ; Weight = 1162 gm
