This beautiful sculpture of a Cus-cus (Possum) sitting on the head of an Eagle was acquired in a remote Middle Sepik River village of Papua New Guinea by Ben Ruhe who travelled this region in a canoe in 1990. The Cus Cus has marbles inserted for eyes and the eagle has cowry shells for eyes. This carving has multiple natural moisture loss split lines which are common on these carvings. There is also a small surface flake missing on the leg of the Cus-Cus. Length = 48 cm ; Weight = 1464 gm
