Item BR17
This Neolithic celt or adze was found in the region near
the Pak Ou caves on the Mekong River near Luang Prabang,
Laos. Celts such as this one are sold by local farmers who
uncover artifacts as they plow their fields. This particular
celt is sharpened, probably for use in an adze. This Mekong
area is thought to be one of the first regions where rice
was grown for harvest. This celt has been knapped and then
ground down, so it is neolithic, rather than paleolithic.
The age is estimated to be several thousands of years old.
