Aboriginal Hardwood Club with Root Ball Head

Item TB163

Pricing Information for this item can be found on the Australian Aboriginal Artifacts link. Instructions for ordering can be found on the How to Order web page.

This Aboriginal hardwood club was made from the base of a small desert tree. The head of the club is a nodule or burl at the interface of the root and base. This club is from a collection from Victoria, but the club probably originated in the Central Desert region of Australia. Probably made in the 1940 or 1950s. No damage. There are some stable shrinkage cracks in the burled head as expected. Root ball clubs are uncommon, but they do exist throughout the Eastern states of Australia and they were also made in Tasmania.

Length = 48 cm ; Weight = 292 gm
