This item is a pair of hammered bronze or copper Tupu cloak pins made and used by Native Americans of the Chancay or Chimú cultures in pre-Columbian Peru (1100-1450 AD). I acquired these as part of a Chancay artifact collection, but the Metropolitan Museum of Art has a web page that identifies similar pins as from the Chimú culture and made between the 8th and 16th centuries. Please view the MMA web page for futher information. Both of these pins are in very nice condition, but both have oxidation as is found on all of these very old cloak pins. One pin is very straight. The other pin has a slight bend near the head, but it is not crimped. The pin head diameters are approximately 3 cm. |
