This item is a collection of twisted plant fibre cordage from the Chancay culture (1100-1450 AD) of pre-Columbian Northern Peru. The cordage was used in slings, tumplines and other woven implements. There are multiple strands, all bound together into a wrapped package as shown in the graphic below. The cordage is dyed a light brown color and it has an estimated combined length of between 5 and 10 metres. The age is estimated at between 500 and 1000 years BP. This cordage was purchased in a New York City auction house in 1965 and it can be legally sold in the USA, but it cannot be exported. Provenance proving that the date of acquisition was before the 1972 import ban will be provided to the purchaser after payment has been received. Length = 750 cm (est.) ; Weight = 54 gm
