This Challenger IV long distance boomerang is the only one that I have ever seen. It was custom made out of 4.2 mm Paxolin material for Al Gerhards who likes to throw large boomerangs and it comes directly from Al Gerhards' collection. The tip-to-tip span is 47 cm (compared with a span of only 41 cm on the Challenger III). This boomerang is in excellent condition. It is initialed and dated 1989. My guess is that this model has a little more range than the Challenger III. It is unweighted. I can supply the buyer with lead to add to the lift arm with tape. Volker did this on the Challenger III to extend the range. This is a large boomerang and it will take a strong and skilled thrower to take full advantage of this boomerang's potential. It is obviously very rare and that is why it was added to the collectible boomerang web page.

Specifications: Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 47 cm ; Weight = 142 gm

Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sporting and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerang products in 2011 and he died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith.
