Item BR12
Lesta Bertoia is a well known artist from Pennsylvania.
She was born in California in 1944 and graduated from UCLA
in 1967. Lesta is the daughter of the famous sculptor -
Harry Bertoia. She began her current art career in 1994 and
has exhibited in over 30 shows in the Philadelphia area. She
has won various local awards for her acrylic paintings and
sculptures. You can find out more about Lesta on the
Bear
Fever and Stepping
Stone web pages. Back in the 1970s, Lesta was a close
personal friend of Peter Ruhf. She made a very small number
of boomerangs with Peter's help. When the 1984 Australian
Team visited the USA in 1984, they were treated to a visit
at a barn that had one of Lesta's large musical sculptures.
That was a real treat for the members of both the American
and Aussie teams. This F-Rang was made in the1970s when Lesta was a close
friend of Peter Ruhf. The design, airfoiling and art is
similar to the boomerangs that were made by Peter. The
F-Rang has an extension on the inside of the dingle arm to
simulate the letter "F". I did test throw this boomerang. It
has more drag than a typical boomerang because of the
extension and it requires some wind for a full return. There
is some wear from use and it can be considered to be in very
good condition.
