This copy of a Gerhards Big U was made out of strips of Schimard Oak and Canadian Walnut in 1993. There is much more to this boomerang than the photos show. It is an offset laminated boomerangs. This means that John made two blanks and glued them together to make the boomerang stiffer and stronger. The airfoiling and tuning on this one is perfect. I gave it a test throw prior to listing it in 2012 and found that it is one of the best flying Cryderman boomerangs I have ever thrown. It makes a huge 55-60 metre circle and it does the entire flight only a few feet above the ground. I lack enough strength to get a full return because I am left handed, but there is nothing in the flight that suggests anything but a full return. John made this one special for the 1994 World Championships in Japan, but the WBC ignored John's offer of this boomerang as a prize, so John sold it to me and it has been part of my personal collection for almost 20 years. If you want only one Cryderman boomerang in your personal collection, then this is the best one that you can get. It is in mint condition. The only flaw is a shallow machining mark on the underside of the dingle arm that is not too noticeable. The underside of the elbow has " 94 JAPAN 94 " stamped into the surface of the wood. The underside of the lift arm has " Double Offset Laminated ; Schimard Oak : Canadian Walnut ; by John Cryderman (signed) June July 93 " written in pen. The underside of the dingle arm has " Made for the 94 Japan Championships ; all the best " written in pen. This is a beautiful and very collectible boomerang. It is one of the finest made by John Cryderman and it is a superb flyer. Because of size, this boomerang will cost extra to ship to a destination in the USA and it will be expensive to ship it overseas.

Specifications: Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 57 cm ; Weight = 200 gm

John Cryderman (from Chatham, Canada) is well known for making high quality strip laminated and Birch plywood boomerangs. Many of these are John's original designs. However, he occasionally makes replicas of boomerangs made by other famous boom makers, such as the strip laminated hooks and omegas made by Al Gerhards of Downington, Pennsylvania. John usually makes his strip laminated boomerangs out of native Canadian hardwoods, but he will often use exotic woods, such as Mahogany and Ebony. Some of the plywood and strip laminated boomerangs are decorated with inlaid plugs of exotic woods arranged in pseudo-floral patterns. The vast majority of John's boomerangs are large in size and they require a strong thrower in order for the boomerang to make a full return.
