Volker made only four of his Challenger III models out of Carbon material. Volker kept two in his throwkit. One went to Moleman and I don't know who owns the fourth one. Volker made these the same shape as the standard Challenger III and he added three lead weights to the lift arm tip and one lead weight to the dingle arm tip. After the initial construction Volker narrowed the cord so that the lead weights are on the outer edge of the lift arm instead of at the blade center. Volker added clear reinforcing tape over the lead weights to make sure they stayed in place. This boomerang has Volker's Bluestar logo and he dated it 1995. He also marked it as having a flight range of 110+ metres. The underside is painted red. The upper surface is left with the original black Carbon color.

Although Volker felt that his madel had a flight range of 110+ metres, others were able to extend the flight range out to 130+ metres. Moleman owns the mate to this boomerang and he lent his Challenger III Carbon to Jim Youngblood. Jim then set a World Record with a flight of 135 metres. Moleman came close to the World Record with a throw of 133 metres, so obviously, this LD boom has a lot of potential in the hands of an experienced LD thrower who knows how to fine tune and throw with finesse.

Volker threw this boomerang a lot. There is wear on both sides, but no chips or cracks or any kind of structural damage. There is evidence of filing on the edges as a result of Volker fine tuning this boomerang. A piece of bright yellow tape was added to the elbow for visibility in flight. This is a very rare historical boomerang. Volker spent a small fortune on the Carbon sheet that was need to carve this boomerang, so Volker had it listed on his website for more than $300. This is not a boomerang for whimps or inexperienced throwers.

Volker Behrens was a well known commercial manufacturer of sporting and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and a member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker made the last of his boomerang products in 2011 and he died in June, 2012. His boomerangs have become great collectibles because they are considered to be comparable to boomerangs made by Herb Smith.
