Eric Darnell's tri-Flys made out of Exotic Materials for Competition

triFlys made out of exotic materials can be found on the Low Cost Boomerang link. Advanced competitors carve these into a variety of Fast Catch, Trick Catch or Doubling competition models. Plans for modifying triflys can be found on Pierre Kutek's triFly web site.

G12 Tri-blader by Volker Behrens
Price: $50 ; Availability: 4 RH

This tri-blader was made out of 2 mm G12. It is a clean and pragmatic solution for windy and gusty days in Australian Round, Trick Catch or Consecutive Catch. It has a higher, circular flight and it does not get bounced around or carried away by freak winds. It is predictable and an easy catch. Made for advanced throwers who know how to tune a boomerang to fly in trash winds by adding weights. Perforated with holes for enhanced wind resistance. Requires moderate winds and weight tuning experience. The paint is flaking off in spots because paint does not adhere well to G12 material.
Radius = 15 cm ; Weight = 49 gm ; Range = 45+ metres ; Age = 17+ ; Power = 8/10 ; Difficulty = 8/10

Plastic Boomerangs Modified for Competition
Trifly Modified for Competition (#1) by Eric Darnell
Price: $25 ; Availability: 1 RH

This is a Polypropylene triFly that was modified for the Position or 40 Metre Round events by Eric Darnell in the early 1990s. It has a flight range of 35-40 metres and it requires some wind and a hard throw for a complete return. This is an original prototype made out of the first production lot of triFlys. May require some fine tuning for your individual throwing style.
Radius = 14 cm ; Weight = 32 gm ; Range = 35-40 metres ; Age = 17+ ; Power = 8/10 ; Difficulty = 6/10

Dimana Accuracy Triblader by Georgi Dimantchev
Price: $18 ; Availability: 1 RH

This tri-blader was made out of 3.2 mm ABS plastic in the 1990s. The blades are recessed to the rear to keep the flight low and circular, like a Fast Catch boomerang. There is a large hole in the hub, medium holes in the tips and four tiny holes along each leading edges. The leading edge of one blade has a filed chamfer on the underside. This boomerang requires a hard throw. It is extremely accurate and it just dies upon it's return, making it ideal for the Accuracy event.
Radius = 14 cm ; Weight = 32 gm ; Range = 18+ metres ; Age = 14+ ; Power = 7/10 ; Difficulty = 5/10

All of the boomerangs listed below were made or modified by Larry Ruhf in the mid 1980s for use in competition. Most of these have a range of 30-50 metres and were made for use in Australian Round or in team events, such as Position. Competition is usually held in the middle of the day when winds are high, so most of these have additional drag because of added holes or slots. These were covered with tape and then the tape was removed partially to match the wind conditions. The slots were also used to insert cyalume light sticks for use in night throwing. These boomerangs are for advanced throwers who know how to add coins, tape, etc. to optimal perfomance. Also, most of these require a hard throw, so they are not good boomerangs for children. You can add camber to the underside to make these easier to throw. These are organized so that the easiest to throw boomerangs are at the top of the list.

Plastic Hook by Larry Ruhf
Item LRP23 ; Price: $9 ; Availability: 1 RH

This boomerang was made by Larry Ruhf in the mid 1980s. It is lighter weight and it has camber on the underside, so the flight range i only about 20 metres. To work properly, you will need to add dihedral and/or add coins to the upper surface of the dingle arm or remove more material to make it less heavy. This is not a good boomerang for a novice thrower.
