All of the boomerangs listed below were made or modified
by Larry Ruhf in the mid 1980s for use in competition. Most
of these have a range of 30-50 metres and were made for use
in Australian Round or in team events, such as Position.
Competition is usually held in the middle of the day when
winds are high, so most of these have additional drag
because of added holes or slots. These were covered with
tape and then the tape was removed partially to match the
wind conditions. The slots were also used to insert cyalume
light sticks for use in night throwing. These boomerangs are
for advanced throwers who know how to add coins, tape, etc.
to optimize perfomance. Also, most of these require a hard
throw, so they are not good boomerangs for children. You can
add camber to the underside or cover holes or slots with
tape or tape a coin to the upper surface of the dingle arm
to make these easier to throw. This group is organized so
that the easiest to throw boomerangs are at the top of the
list.
