This web page lists web sites with ethnographic and cultural information about indigenous peoples who use (or have used) boomerangs, throwsticks and other related devices over the years. |
North America The University of Texas at Austin has posted photos of
artifacts that came from a Ceremonial
Cave. The artifacts included a selection of very fine
prehistoric Rabbit
Sticks made by indigenous Native Americans from that
region. Ben
Pressley has great information about rabbit stick (North
American throwstick) technology. Crystal Links has posted a small thesis about the
historical use of the boomerang by J. E. J. Lenoch titled "
Throwing
Wood and Boomerang ".
Europe Latvia Aivars Brengulis
has posted a web page with information about prehistoric
boomerangs found in Latvia. Poland The oldest boomerang ever found was in a cave in Oblazowa
in southern Poland. Full details about the Polish
throwstick, made out of Mammoth Tusk can be found on the
Oblazowa
Archaeological Summary web site. Click on the link
for "Finds" to see the oldest boomerang in the world.
