I enlisted in the United States Navy in 1969 and served 6 years as a Crypto-logic Technician, Interpreter, North Vietnamese linguist. Upon discharge in 1975, I joined the Naval Reserve & then left the Navy to attend Army Officer Candidate School & joined the Army National Guard. I worked at Amana Refrigeration as a Group Leader in the Production Control Department & part-time at K-Mart in the Security Department while I attended Kirkwood Community College, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I took a job as Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of General Services with Iowa National Insurance while I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration degree at the University of Iowa. I moved to Alabama & worked as a Loss Prevention Engineer for Lumbermen's Underwriting Alliance & then took a position with the Alabama Army National Guard as a Training Technician. I moved up through the ranks to Battalion Executive Officer of the 131st Signal Battalion & then to the State Area Command where I am currently assigned as the Information Services Branch Chief, & hold the rank of Major. I met and married Edie Smith (CHS 70) in 2001. I have three children, Heather, who is a professional ice skater in Peoria, IL, Christine, who just graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Environmental Engineering & Wendell, who recently graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from Iowa State University and has taken a position with Honeywell in Albuquerque NM & two stepchildren (Edie's kids) Daniel, who has a Bachelor of Science in Communications Degree & works for Fox Sports and Kendra, who is a Junior Marketing major at the University of Houston & one granddaughter, Chloe, from my daughter Heather & one step granddaughter, Hayley, and one step grandson, Hayden, to Edie's son Daniel. For hobbies, I help maintain the
CHS 68 home page & I, along with Edie, am the Alabama
Area Reporter for the Panama Canal Society of Florida, Canal
Record. I enjoy fishing & fooling around with computers.

The "Wedding of the Flowers" was conducted at Margarita Elementary School in 1957 and included every student in the school. I was, of all things, the minister! The first picture shows the entire cast, assembled in the court yard of the school. The second picture is the "Bride and Groom" (don't remember their names) and the minister - yours truly. All I remember of the bride and groom is that I was tremendously jealous of the groom because he got to kiss the bride's hand and she was BEAUTIFUL! I was in Mrs. Roosevelt's second grade class at the time. ![]() |
