Susan Sawyer Scheina

After CHS I went to American University in Washington, DC as an English major. Right after I worked at the public radio station on campus doing weather & traffic reports between classes for a Masters in film study but never finished the thesis. Instead, I married my college boyfriend, Marty Scheina, who had graduated two years earlier & was in the Navy & we lived in Norfolk, VA for the 1st year. After the Navy, he returned to AU for his Masters in Latin American Studies & went to work for the government here in DC. While he was studying at AU I worked as a Dean's secretary & then as a graduate student advisor. We moved to Vienna, Virginia in 1978.

We have two sons. Jonathan is 23, went to William & Mary for his undergrad degree & just finished his Masters in East Asian Studies at Harvard. Christopher is 19 & just finished his Freshman year at William & Mary as an English major. Hockey is a major part of our lives, as both boys play in adult leagues and we are big NHL fans. Our family hobby is travel & we've had some wonderful summer adventures all over the globe. Jon speaks Chinese & Japanese, & Chris speaks Spanish & French so it helps to have personal translators. Jon is about to start a great job with the government so our family adventures will need to be closer to home in the near future. Chris hopes to teach English at the college level someday & writes novels in his spare time.
