This hunting boomerang, or throwstick, was made out of Mulga, a dense hardwood found in the Central Desert of Australia. Both surfaces have shallow adze marks suggesting that it was shaped with an adze and then scraped smooth. Both surfaces are also covered in red ochre. I acquired this boomerang in 1991 from an artifact dealer in Perth, Western Australia. This vendor was liquidating the famous W. H. Holt/Lord Alastair McAlpine collection. The McAlpine number 245 is neatly printed in white paint on one end. There is no Holt I.D. This boomerang is in very nice condition and with no visual damage. A very nice example of a Central Desert throwstick and with excellent provenance.

Length = 62 cm ; Weight = 325 gm
