This is a Central Desert beanwood shield with an age of approximately 75 years. Both sides are covered with deeply incised longitudinal grooves finished with red ochre. The handle is carved deeply into the reverse side and the edges adjacent to the handle are curled inward. Sections of the ochre coating are worn through to the beanwood, especially at the sharp edges slong the perimeter. This can be seen in the photo below. The shield is in very good condition. The shield has a length of 69 cm and a weight of 1134 gm.
