This item was part of an collection of old Native American artifacts sold by the Butterfields Auction House in 2001. Butterfield's ethnographic expert identified this item as "an Eastern Woodlands style wood club profusely engraved with snakes, turtles and geometric complements". In addition, the engraved art includes dyes/stains to accentuate the boundaries. A hole is drilled through the handle end for a leather thong (not available with this piece). This club is in excellent condition. It is quite old with a fine patina on the surface. The art work is as nice as I have seen in any museum collection. Span = 67 cm. Weight = 686 gm
