This item is a long and slender hardwood spear thrower from the Northern Territories. These artifacts are sometimes improperly called a Woomera or Atlatl. This spear thrower was probably made in the early to mid 1900s. There are similar spear throwers from this region that have a large clam shell attached to the handle end with Spinifex resin. This spear thrower has a wooden peg attached to the spear end with Spinifex resin and the attachment is fully intact. The handle end has incised lines possibly to enhance grip or as a preparation for attachment of the clam shell. This spear thrower is in very nice condition.

Length = 89 cm ; Weight = 195 gm
