This message board or Sacred Tjuringa is from the western side of the Central Desert of Australia. It was made with a combination of metal and stone tools. One side is plain and rounded like half of a lens. The other side is flat and covered with incised line decorations (see photo below). I purchased this artifact from an antiquity dealer from Cleveland in 1988. The dealer said it was made in the 19^th Century, but it could also be from the early 20^th Century. It was made out of a dense hardwood, probably Mulga and it is in very nice condition.
