This item is an old sword club made by the Massim Group from the Trobriand Islands, just east of Papua, New Guinea. It was made out of a dark and very dense tropical hardwood, similar to Ebony. The club is decorated with incised art on both sides of the blade. The evacuated region is filled in with crushed shell (lime). My best guess is that this club was made in the first half of the 20th Century. It is in very nice condition with most of the lime remaining. There are a couple of very small edge chips at the very tip where the blade narrows down. A very fine artifact that is more affordable than the pre contact examples sold in auction houses.

Span = 61 cm ; Weight = 691 gm
