This item is a very old hardwood club from New South Wales. This type of club has a bulbous head and a cross section that tapers along the entire length. It is often called a throwing club but I think it was used without being thrown. Sometimes, this type of club is called a Nula Nula. It was made in the 19th Century. The entire length has very fine longitudinal grooves made by stone tools, but these are worn smooth and difficult to see. The narrow handle end may have been shaped using metal tools. This club is in very nice condition. There are very few marks from impact and no cracks. The two ends are slightly blunted. I acquired this club in 1991 from an artifact dealer in Perth, Western Australia. This vendor was liquidating the famous W. H. Holt/Lord Alastair McAlpine collection. The Holt I.D. "H987" is printed in white paint near the handle end.

Length = 69 cm ; Weight = 391 gm
