This ornamental hair pin was made out of a section of a large mammal bone. These were sometimes made out of human bones, but this one was probably made out of a pig or other large mammal bone. The New Guinea men often have large "Afro" style hair buns and they insert these hair pins into their hair for decoration. This hair pin was collected in PNG in the early 1980s. It was an older piece when it was collected. There is no damage to this artifact. It look really great! Length = 40 cm ; Weight = 28 gm
