This hunting boomerang, or throwstick, was made out of a dense hardwood. Although this boomerang is very old,the color of the wood is tan instead of dark brown or black. I acquired this boomerang in 1991 from an artifact dealer in Perth, Western Australia. This vendor was liquidating the famous W. H. Holt/Lord Alastair McAlpine collection. The collection tag said it was from the Western Desert. This is a very large region and the large size and symmetrical shape suggests it is from the southern region. The McAlpine number 292 is neatly printed in white paint on one end. The Holt I.D. "H378" is printed in white paint on both ends. The surfaces are smooth and glossy, possibly from an application of kangaroo fat. This boomerang is in very nice condition with minimal edge damage and several natural wood blemishes that add to the attractiveness of this artifact. A very nice throwstick with excellent provenance.

Length = 72 cm ; Weight = 391 gm
