This is an old hardwood club from Western Australia. Approximately 80% of the length has longitudinal fluting (grooves). The hand grip has decorative grooving as shown in the photo below. Both ends have a rough chiseled texture, possibly for use in frictional fire starting. The wood appears to be Jarrah, commonly used for clubs and boomerangs in Western Australia. The color suggests that it was finished in red ochre, but this is also the natural color of Jarrah hardwood. The handle end has a minor closed crack that should not affect the overall structural integrity. A very nice old club from the early 20th Century. I purchased this club from the Barclay Gallery in 1987.

Length = 71 cm ; Weight = 432 gm
