This omega sport boomerang was made by Brother Brian Thomas in 1979 and given as a gift to Al Gerhards. This omega is made out of plywood and painted bright colors with parallel bands similar to that found on early boomerangs made by the Janetzki Brothers. The reverse side of the elbow has the intials TB and the number 79 which was Brian's way of marking the boomerang that he was the manufacturer and the date it was made. I gave this boomerang a test throw and found it to be a very good flyer with a flight range of 40-50 metres. It does take a hard throw and it likes a little wind for a full return. This boomerang is a wonderful collectible and it is in very good condition. From the collection of Al Gerhards.

Specifications: Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 34 cm ; Weight = 108 gm

As a bonus, I am adding a second boomerang that is an unpainted replica of Brian's Paddleboat Omega. The replica was made out of plywood in 1979 by A.W. Belder. This boomerang is signed and dated 1979. This boomerang also takes a hard throw and the flight range is 30-35 metres. This boomerang was also part of Al Gerhards' collection and it is in excellent condition.

Specifications: Right Handed ; Tip-to-tip Span = 36 cm ; Weight = 102 gm

Brother Brian Thomas was Australia's ambassador to the world of boomerangs for more than three decades. Brian was the glue that held the Aussies together and the Boomerang Association of Australia (BAA) gave him the title of National Boomerang Coach. Brian also was the editor of the BAA newsletter for many years. The newsletter issues that Brian produced remain valuable historical records of what happened in Australian during the golden age renaissance that occured from the 1960s through the 1980s. Brian was also a boomerang collector . He appreciated the boomerangs made by historical craftsman like the Janetzki Brothers and Herb Smith long before anyone else did and this made his collection quite valuable. Brian also made a very limited number of boomerangs. Collectors are always happy to have examples of Brian's boomerangs in their collections.
