Volker Behrens is a well known commercial manufacturer of sporting and competition boomerang products. Volker was also a competitor and member of the German International Boomerang Team. Volker was a pioneer in the development of long distance boomerangs and he demonstrated throws of 150 metres in the 1980s with his popular Challenger III Paxolin Hook. Volker continues to make high performance boomerang products. This includes boomerangs made out of Aircraft Grade plywood, Paxolin, G12, Carbon Fibre, Lap Joint Hardwoods and Strip Laminated Hardwoods.

This strip laminated large hook was made out of 180 layers of thin hardwood veneers. The shape is the same as the famous White Lightning boomerang by Al Gerhards, but the construction is different and this is an unweighted boomerang. The underside has " Al Gerhards White Lightning Handcrafted by Volker Behrens, 4/87 #1/4 " printed on the outside edge. I was able to test throw this boomerang before listing. Because I am left handed, I could not put enough power into this large boomerang to get a complete return, but it does have a low circular flight with a range of 60+ metees. I would caution any collector from throwing this boomerang on hard ground with lots of power because it is one of Volker's first strip laminated boomerangs and it may not have the durability of later models which were constructed using stronger glues. It is a beautiful boomerang and without damage. I would recommend that you make a copy for throwing. A wonderful collectable from the Volker Behrens' personal collection.
